Prohibited Dumpster Items

Prohibited Items

At WRS Dumpster Rental, we take safety and environmental responsibility seriously, which is why certain materials are strictly prohibited from being placed in our dumpsters. These restrictions are designed to comply with local, state, and federal regulations to protect sanitation workers, landfill facilities, and the environment. Items that pose chemical, biological, or fire hazards cannot be disposed of in our containers. Always contact our team if you’re unsure whether a material is safe to toss—we’re happy to guide you.

Mattresses

At WRS Dumpster Rental, mattresses are considered a prohibited item and cannot be placed in our dumpsters. Due to local disposal regulations and sanitation concerns, mattresses must be handled separately through approved recycling or special waste services. Please contact our team for guidance on how to properly dispose of mattresses in your area.

Chemical Waste and Hazardous Materials

Hazardous materials, including pesticides, flammable liquids, and industrial chemicals, are not allowed in our dumpsters due to their dangerous nature. These substances pose significant risks to health and the environment and must be handled through certified hazardous waste programs.

Appliances with Chemicals

Appliances containing refrigerants, such as refrigerators, air conditioners, and dehumidifiers, cannot be placed in dumpsters unless professionally evacuated. These chemicals are regulated due to their ozone-depleting properties and require proper removal and recycling procedures.

Batteries

Batteries of all types—especially car batteries and rechargeable lithium-ion—are banned from dumpsters due to their fire and chemical risks. These must be recycled through specialized collection centers that are equipped to handle the toxic components they contain.

Light Bulbs

Certain light bulbs, particularly compact fluorescent (CFL) and fluorescent tubes, contain small amounts of mercury and should not be thrown in standard dumpsters. These bulbs should be taken to recycling programs or hazardous waste events in your area.

Electronics

Computers, televisions, printers, and other electronic devices are prohibited because they contain heavy metals and circuitry that must be recycled responsibly. Many municipalities and electronics retailers offer designated drop-off locations for e-waste.

Paints and Solvents

Leftover paints, stains, varnishes, and related solvents are not accepted in dumpsters as they are flammable and may contain harmful chemicals. They must be disposed of at household hazardous waste facilities or during special community collection events.

Recyclables

While it may seem convenient, recyclable items such as cardboard, glass, and plastics should not be discarded in dumpsters meant for general waste. These materials should be sorted and sent to recycling centers to reduce landfill overflow and support sustainability.
