The Job

In August 2026, homeowners on Pepperbush Court were replacing their deck and needed somewhere to put the old one as it came apart: weathered boards, railings, joists, and framing. They called WRS for dumpster rental in Wilmington, DE, and getting the container into place turned out to be a bigger challenge than the debris itself.

Pepperbush Court sits in a tightly built residential neighborhood with narrow streets and limited parking. A full size roll off truck working a street like this can block neighbors in, come too close to parked cars, and have trouble backing a container accurately into a driveway.

What We Had to Plan Around

Access. Our truck needed to come down a narrow street, back into the driveway, set the container, and leave without blocking traffic or forcing neighbors to move their cars.

Driveway protection. A steel dumpster resting directly on a driveway can gouge and scrape the surface, and the damage is still there long after the new deck is finished. The container needed to sit in the driveway without marking it.

Timing. The dumpster had to be empty and in place before the old deck came down, so the work could start on schedule. The homeowners also didn't want a full dumpster sitting in their driveway once the tear out was done.

How WRS Handled It

  1. A compact truck instead of a full size one. We sent a smaller truck that could work the narrow street, back into the driveway, and set the container accurately without tying up traffic.

  2. Driveway placement. Setting the container in the driveway kept the street clear for neighbors and put the dumpster a few steps from the back of the house, where the old deck was coming out.

  3. A 15 yard dumpster for the full tear out. The 15 yard dumpster held the entire deck in one load and fit the driveway with room to spare.

  4. Protective boards under every contact point. Before the container came down, heavy boards went under each spot where the steel would touch the driveway. The dumpster never sat directly on the surface.

  5. Delivery the day before. We dropped the dumpster off one day before the project start date, so loading could begin the moment the tear out started.

  6. Pickup within 24 to 48 hours. Once the homeowners called for pickup, we hauled the container away within a 24 to 48 hour window, so they got their driveway back quickly.

The Results

  • The dumpster was delivered and removed with no damage to the driveway or the street.
  • Neighbors kept access to their homes and parking throughout the job.
  • Loading started on the first morning of the tear out.
  • The load weighed in at 3 tons at the scale.
  • Total cost was $650: the $445 base rate for a 15 yard dumpster plus a weight charge for the tonnage over the included allowance.
  • Our crew said the homeowners were great to work with, which made both the drop off and the pickup easy to schedule.

Planning a Dumpster for Your Own Deck Project

Old deck lumber is heavier than it looks, especially pressure treated boards that have absorbed years of weather. That's why this job came in at 3 tons even though the material was mostly wood. When you book, tell us roughly how big your deck is and what it's made of so we can estimate the weight up front and your final price isn't a surprise.

If your project also includes concrete footings, pavers, or a patio tear out, mention that too. Those materials are much heavier, and they change both the right container size and the weight allowance you'll need. Our dumpster sizes page compares every container from 10 to 40 yards.

Before you load, check our prohibited items list. Old deck stain, sealer, and paint cans can't go in the dumpster while they're still wet, so set those aside early in the job.

If you're planning on driveway placement, clear the space before delivery and let us know about any tight turns, low branches, or overhead wires. We'll send the right truck and protect the surface where the container will sit.
